FAQ
Framing
How do I assemble a "Ready to Assemble" Frame?
If your ordered larger frames in a "Ready to Assemble" fashion, instructions to aid in assembly can be found here: Ready To Assemble Instructions
What will I need to install my artwork?
There are a few different options when it comes to installing artwork. Most customers use a point gun to secure their art in the frame, but manual framing points work just as well if you don’t have one. You can see both options demonstrated in our How-To Video.
When it comes to hanging your finished frame, you can use D-rings with wire or a sawtooth hanger. We have a video guide outlining each:
How to Add Hanging Hardware to Your Frame
How to Attach a Sawtooth Hanger
To install your hanging hardware, you’ll just need a few common household tools such as a hammer, screwdriver, or wire cutters, depending on your preferred hanging method.
Please note that hardware is not included, but you can purchase everything you need here.
I’ve never framed a canvas before. What do I need?
What you’ll need depends on how you choose to mount your canvas inside the frame.
Most commonly, customers use offset clips to secure the canvas. These allow the stretched canvas to sit snugly in the frame. In addition to offset clips, you will need a screwdriver, and something to keep your spacing between the canvas and the frame even. We recommend cardboard shims, but other household products will work as well.
Some people prefer to drill the canvas stretcher bars directly into the frame. This method gives a secure hold but is a more permanent option.
Both methods are demonstrated step-by-step in our video guides, so you can choose the approach that works best for you.
Mounting a canvas with offset clips
Mounting a canvas directly to a floater frame
How do I know what size offset clips I need?
For floater frames, the depth of your canvas stretcher bar and the depth of the frame’s rabbet (the recessed area where the canvas sits) should be almost identical, and if not the canvas should be just slightly smaller than the frame’s rabbet depth. To select the proper offset clip size, you can also measure the thickness of the back side of the floater frame (the part that the canvas sits on or the part of the floater frame that is closest to the wall when hung) and choose an offset roughly the same size or a bit larger, but not smaller. For your convenience, we have included our suggested offset clip size on each floater frame we sell. If your canvas depth and the rabbet depth of the frame are not similar in size, there are ways to use larger offset clips to help raise the canvas - in this case we suggest calling our team and we can assist with the correct offset clip size for this scenario.
For traditional frames, offset clips are not always necessary, but they can be used to secure canvases or panels that don’t sit flush within the rabbet. In this case, select a clip that spans the gap between the back of your artwork and the frame, ensuring it holds the piece firmly without adding pressure.
If you’re unsure which offset size to choose, please reach out to our team, we’ll be happy to help you find the right fit.
What is the best way to clean acrylic?
The best way to clean acrylic is to use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth and a non-abrasive acrylic cleaner or a mild soap and water solution. Avoid using paper towels, ammonia-based cleaners, or rough materials, as they can scratch the surface. Gently wipe the acrylic in a circular motion to remove dust and smudges, and always use a clean cloth to prevent streaking. For long-term care, consider an anti-static cleaner to reduce dust buildup and keep your acrylic looking crystal clear!
The best way to keep your acrylic as clean as possible is to leave the protective film on until you’re ready to install it in the frame. This helps prevent dust, fingerprints, and scratches during handling.
Can you frame my artwork for me?
No, we do not offer full framing services, so artwork cannot be mailed to us, and we do not frame pieces onsite. We offer a wide range of individual components - including custom frames, acrylic, backing boards, and hardware - allowing you to purchase exactly what you need for your project. However, we do not perform artwork installation or mounting services.
Ordering
How do I measure my art?
For traditional artwork (paper, prints, photos, etc.), measure the height and width of the exact image area you want to display. Our frames are built to fit those measurements, with an industry-standard 1/8" allowance to ensure your artwork fits properly. For the most accurate results, provide the exact dimensions of your artwork when ordering.
For canvases going into floater frames, measure the outside dimensions of the stretched canvas (including stretcher bars) for the height and width, as well as the depth (thickness) of the canvas, since this must fit within the rabbet depth of the frame. For example, if your canvas is 1 1/4" deep, you’ll need to choose a frame with a rabbet depth of at least 1 1/4".
It’s also a good idea to measure multiple points of the canvas, including the corners where the folds are, since these areas can sometimes be slightly larger than the sides where the canvas is tight and flush. This ensures your canvas sits securely and is properly supported within the frame. For tips on choosing the right float space (the gap between your canvas and the frame), see "How do I choose the right spacing option for my floater frame?"
How thick can my artwork be?
This depends on the rabbet depth of the frame. The rabbet is the recessed space on the inside edge of the frame where your artwork sits. Different frames have different rabbet depths, which determine how thick your artwork can be. For example:
A frame with a 1/2" rabbet depth can hold artwork up to 1/2" thick.
A floater frame with a 1 5/8" rabbet depth can accommodate much thicker canvases.
Always check the rabbet depth listed for the frame you’re ordering to make sure it fits your artwork.
What size frame do I order?
Our traditional frames are custom-made to fit the size of your artwork. When entering dimensions, provide the exact artwork size, and we’ll manufacture the frame to accept that size with an industry-standard 1/8" allowance to ensure a proper fit.
For floater frames, we manufacture to the exact measurements of your canvas. You’ll have the opportunity to select your desired float spacing when placing your order. This spacing, known as the float gap, is the visible space between the canvas and the inside of the frame—it creates the floating effect and provides room for minor variations in canvas size. We recommend a minimum of 1/8" on each side to ensure your canvas fits comfortably.
Please note that orders placed with no float space are not eligible for return if the canvas does not fit.
What’s the difference between “Width” and “Width Fraction” when ordering my frame?
Width refers to the whole-number portion of your artwork or frame size (for example, 5 inches).
Width Fraction allows you to add the fractional part of your measurement - such as 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4.
Example: If your artwork is 5 ½ inches wide, you would select:
- Width: 5
- Width Fraction: 1/2
The same applies to the Height and Height Fraction fields.
If your artwork is 7 ¾ inches tall, you would select:
- Height: 7
- Height Fraction: 3/4
This ensures your frame is built to the correct size you need.
How do I choose the right spacing option for my floater frame?
After entering your canvas dimensions, you’ll be prompted to select a spacing amount. This determines how much open space, or “reveal,” appears around your canvas once it’s placed in the floater frame.
We offer three spacing options:
- No Spacing: The frame is built exactly to your canvas dimensions. This creates a tight fit and minimal gap but leaves little room for variation. Orders placed with no spacing are not eligible for return if the canvas does not fit.
- 1/4" Spacing: Our most popular option. This provides a subtle, clean reveal between the canvas and frame and allows for slight canvas size variations.
- 1/2" Spacing: Creates a more pronounced float gap, giving your artwork extra breathing room and a modern, gallery-style look.
We generally suggest at least 1/8" to 1/4" spacing to ensure a comfortable fit. If you need help deciding, our team can help you pick the best option for your canvas.
How precise and specific are your frames cut?
Our frames are cut with precision to within 1/16 of an inch. When ordering, please provide exact artwork measurements to ensure the best fit. We also add a 1/8" allowance, as per industry standards, to ensure a proper fit.
Are your frames Fully Assembled?
Yes, unlike our competitors, we fully assemble our frames before shipping, provided the frame is less than 30" x 40" external dimensions. In the event you need a frame larger than 30" x 40" external dimensions, we can manufacture the frame and ship is as a "ready to assemble" kit, or we can arrange a truck shipment to have the frames sent on a pallet via freight.
Do the frames come with any hardware?
No, our frames are sold without any hardware since there are many different ways customers choose to mount or hang their finished artwork. If you need help selecting the right mounting or hanging accessories, please don’t hesitate to contact us - we’re happy to help point you in the right direction.
Why buy from Florida Frames?
Florida Frames has been in business for over 42 years. We are a family-owned business that sells only High-Quality real wood mouldings. Our frames are featured in many High-End Art Galleries and Museums across the country.
With so many frame styles, how do I know which one to choose?
Choosing the right frame style depends on the artwork, your décor, and personal preference. For a classic look, go with ornate or traditional mouldings. For a modern feel, sleek, minimal frames work best. Rustic or distressed frames add warmth and character. Consider the colors and textures in the piece—neutral frames keep the focus on the artwork, while bold frames make a statement. If unsure, a timeless, simple frame is always a safe choice that complements most styles.
If you need any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us! We’re happy to help you find the perfect match. We also offer sample pieces, so you can see the color and finish in person before placing your order.
How can you sell higher-end mouldings so much cheaper than a traditional frame shop?
From the inception of our company, we have been a wholesale frame supplier. In fact, many frame shops actually order their assembled frames from us and then resell to their customers. We operate with low overhead and high efficiencies to try to minimize price increases.
Do you sell to Frame Shops or Galleries?
Yes, the majority of our customers are wholesale clients who re-sell the frames with artwork to their end clients. However, you do not need to have a wholesale or artist account to order - anyone is welcome to purchase from us.
Do you offer Large Order discounts?
Yes, if you have a large order over $2,500, please contact us to see if we can help with volume pricing.
Are there quantity discounts?
Yes, for wood frames of the exact same style and exact same size you will receive a 5% discount for a quantity of 3 or more frames, and a 10% discount for a quantity of 10 or more.
Do you offer coupon codes?
We don’t offer coupon codes at this time. Because we operate as a wholesale supplier, our pricing is already structured to give customers the lowest possible rates. Our goal is to provide the best possible value to all customers without the need for promotions or discounts.
Do you offer samples?
Yes we do! We offer small 3" physical samples of our frames. We do not charge for the samples, but we do charge a flat $10 to cover the shipping expense. All sample orders can request up to 8 samples per shipment. Click HERE to order samples.
Do you sell glass or acrylic?
Yes! We offer a range of high-quality acrylic options to suit your needs, including clear, museum, and reflection control—each designed to protect and enhance your artwork. Acrylic provides a safer, lighter, and more durable alternative, making it ideal for both home and professional framing.
